BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION:

Heels to Heal Project Inc.

Charlotte, NC

ABOUT THE BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION:
The Heels to Heal program provides the community with an opportunity to donate heels or other footwear to survivors of domestic violence. All shoes are inspected to make sure they are in a “dignity condition” before being donated. They are then cleaned and packaged up with inspirational cards.

We would like to help those walking out on domestic violence to feel powerfully supported, wonderfully beautiful, and totally unstoppable. And sometimes, it’s as simple as owning a nice pair of shoes.

Heels to Heal Project Inc.’s mission is to meet the social, intellectual, emotional, and physical needs of survivors as well as those who are affected by domestic violence.

THE STORY:
As a child around age five, I heard my mother being beaten and raped in the room next to me. She was screaming out my name for help. I tried to rush to the door to help her, but I was too late. That memory has stayed with me every day. In 2015, my mother passed away from cancer. I wanted to do something positive in honor of my mom. I wanted to turn the negative memory I had into something positive, and this is how Heels to Heal Project Inc. was born.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS / ACCOLADES / AWARDS:
In 2017 Heels to Heal Project Inc. collected over 200 pairs of shoes which were all donated to women that had been affected by domestic violence.

ROADBLOCKS AND CHALLENGES:
Some of the struggles I had were in balancing a 9-5 job and making time to build a nonprofit program. But I made it a goal to take three hours out of each day to work on Heels to Heal Project Inc.

RULES/PRINCIPLES:
The most important rule I live by; I don’t live In the past, I focus on the future.
