BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION:
Packing Pretty Firearms, LLCAtlanta, Georgia
ABOUT THE BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION:I am an Atlanta native and a Certified Basic Pistol Instructor. For two years, I have been a volunteer Chapter Leader with the Well Armed Women South Atlanta Chapter, which has over 100 members. My goal is to educate, empower, and equip women about guns and gun safety. I am one of the few African American Female Gun Instructors in the State of Georgia.
I recently launched Packing Pretty Firearms, LLC to offer gun safety and gun training classes to ALL women. The New to Firearms class is for the novice - new to gun, gun ranges and interested in learning more about guns and gun safety. These classes are designed with ALL women in mind that want to get over their fear of guns and learn the basic fundamentals of shooting a gun. There are over 300 women on the waiting list for these classes.
I am also certified to teach a Situational Awareness Class - Refuse to Be A Victim & She is a Junior Mentor with Damsel in Defense. I will also teach a gun safety class to help eliminate accidental deaths seen in our youth and community to children ages Pre K- 4th grade in June, 2018.
THE STORY:I got started on this journey after I was a victim of a home invasion. I could have been at home at the time; and in speaking with the police, I decided I needed to learn about guns. I wanted to do it right and learn about safety first, but I didn't want to do it alone. I sought out women's gun clubs and found The Well Armed Women Gun Club founded by Carrie Lightfoot.
They assisted me with starting the FIRST and ONLY chapter in Atlanta - The Well Armed Women South Atlanta Chapter. I became a certified pistol instructor to offer a gun club for women that are familiar with guns to have a space for ongoing educational opportunities. I realized that so many women wanted to join the club, but few were novice shooters. I started Packing Pretty Firearms, LLC to offer classes for women brand new to guns, gun ranges, etc.
WE must change the narrative and become educated and equipped to protect ourselves and our families. I'm thankful that I'm able to offer a space for women to feel comfortable, get over their fears, and become empowered and educated gun owners.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS / ACCOLADES / AWARDS:My proud moments are being featured in the Black Women and Guns article, featured in the Atlantan Magazine and on 3/31/18 I was invited to be on a Black Girl Magic Forum hosted by Fulton County Commissioner Marvin Arrington.
SUCESS:I'm an award winning Biotechnology sales professional; I have been working in the women's health arena for 15 years.
RULES/PRINCIPLES:Success is traveling the road less traveled and making a difference along the way. The best part of success is gratitude and achievement. The worst part of success in my firearms company is that I cannot accommodate all the women that are waiting to take the class right now, but I'm working on improving these opportunities.
