ABOUT THE BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION:Between Peace & Pieces is a blog spot and apparel shop. My blog spot takes a personal approach to address everyday life issues that affect the everyday people of our community.
In life, most of us have an innate desire or need to be better than what we were yesterday. No matter where we are vested, we seem to constantly strive to get to another level - leaving us to balance life somewhere in the middle;
Between Peace & Pieces...
My aim is to foster thought-provoking dialogue, through intimate experiences that are conducive to mental and emotional health, personal growth, and conflict resolution. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, it is only natural that some form of health and wellness is usually an undertone to whatever I create. The apparel shop was created to inspire and celebrate today's professional Black woman. Don't we deserve it?!
I don't just simply write blogs or words for my apparel; I share pieces of my life...
THE STORY:There are certain things I've always been passionate about in my life. They are: my beliefs, my family, nursing, writing, the community and its culture, and my struggles as a Black woman.
One day, in a discussion with one of my older sisters, she mentioned something about doing media pieces or blogging. At first, I thought the idea was far-fetched, but realized it would be the perfect platform to discuss issues that affect our society. I was then motivated to come up with apparel to complement my vision.
As for my family, I have two biological sons, and two grandchildren. About four years ago I abruptly lost my little sister during knee surgery. It changed my life forever. After her death, I was awarded custody of her three younger children.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS / ACCOLADES / AWARDS:Along with a colleague, I co-founded a nonprofit organization called, BLINGG (Black Leaders in Nursing Giving Globally). Our focus is on the many disparities that plague our community. We currently have two high school scholarships available in three counties in Georgia, and a local school in Arkansas to a minority student with a financial need.
During nursing school, I received graduate awards for two consecutive years for my hard work in and dedication to the nursing field. During my matriculation in Grad School, I was spotlighted as Student Nurse Practitioner of the Month for high academic achievement and my ability to overcome obstacles. I've had two essays published. I'm also a contributor for Arianna Huffington's Thrive Global.
ADVICE:Best advice: My mom has always said "Do right by people. You never know who you might need in this world." Because of these words I make it a point to treat everyone with respect, no matter their socioeconomical status. This has also made me think twice about burning bridges; in my career and personal life as well.
GLOBAL FOCUS:I would change racism, and race relations. I believe the two have had the most negative and hurtful impact on our society than anything else.
