BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION:

AveryDay Vintage

Los Angeles CA

ABOUT THE BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION:
AveryDay Vintage specializes in vintage dresses. My mission is to offer the best quality vintage that can withstand everyday wear. The shop caters to clients who may be busy working full time, attending school, taking care of families or perhaps involved with important volunteer work. They are limited in the time they can spend shopping for themselves, however must still look their best. That's where this shop comes in. Pieces offered are carefully chosen, cleaned, measured and appropriately photographed. Shoppers must simply know their body measurements, compare them to what is listed, tap a link to pay and their pretty dress arrives at their door nicely packaged ready to wear. Not only does the shop provide a product but it also provides a much needed service. Getting the kids together, spending hours at the malls, being frustrated with the sizing differences, and coming out empty handed and unsatisfied doesn't have to be the norm anymore. Because of this wonderful social media platform, buyers are in direct contact with me, the owner. All sales are made on Instagram. It makes the shopping experience not only convenient but much more personable. With all that goes on in our life and with much today being automated, having that personal exchange is important to me.

THE STORY:
I sort of fell into this business. When I had my baby, I needed to refresh my wardrobe and figure out what to do with my existing collection of dresses. So I took a chance and listed them for sale via Instagram. To my pleasant surprise they sold. After that as I thrifted and discovered dresses I loved, instead of leaving them behind if they didn't fit, I listed them for sale. Over time my following grew and word of mouth spread. Next thing I knew I was registering as a business and I had found something I loved doing while also helping to provide for our family.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS / ACCOLADES / AWARDS:
One of my most proudest moments was when I launched the shop's sister account AveryDay Vintage Market. This account was created as a selling platform but also provides a service. Suppose someone has dresses they want to sell yet have no desire to operate a shop nor have the knowledge. The Market provides a page to sell on via Instagram. Clients are guided through the selling process. i.e how to photograph, measure and even ship items. It personalizes not only the shopper's experience but the seller's experience as well. The Market has also recently branched out into the dress-making field. Because of the growth, the company has taken on much needed help. The Market is run by two beautifully capable women, Suzy & Lisa and we work with a lovely seamstress Hortensia who creates quality dresses made from true vintage fabric and linens.

CHILDHOOD YEARS:
Growing up I'd say I was ambitious, determined to accomplish whatever I set my mind to, for sure stubborn. I would become fully immersed in something until it was accomplished. I was definitely an extrovert, at times I'm sure no matter how much my parents tried, I could not be made to stop talking. I had loads of energy. I ended up going into the educational field. I had the best time teaching for about 10 years fully immersing myself in my job. I always told myself that I would do something I loved as a career. Teaching wasn't the most prominent, but I did love it. Some of my most precious memories came from my time in the classroom.

RELAXATION:
I'm pretty low maintenance in this department. I love going on walks at the Huntington Library or arboretum with our little one being outside and enjoying beautiful creation. Having a good friend drop in and enjoying a hot cup of coffee while catching up is one of my favorite ways to relax. Taking naps at the beach while listening to the waves is super relaxing or enjoying a bond fire during the summer months. But my absolute favorite way is snuggling in bed during rainy days. I know I must enjoy it now because Matthew will grow up one day and those moments will be only memories.
