Musings, thoughts & prose on love, life, new beginnings & everything else!

  • Bagels!  I miss good New York bagels. They’re difficult to find in Atlanta… When I was growing up in New York, my brother and I would go with our mother to the S&H Green Stamp Redemption Center/Store.  “What’s a S&H Green Stamp Catalog Store?” you ask? ...

  • I watched a short video the other day about a young woman who had lost all self-confidence – she had been laid off from her job and was having difficulty finding a new one.  She sought the help of an expert to boost her confidence,...

  • I have always been a fence straddler when it comes to making decisions – should I or shouldn’t I?  Make a move/don’t make a move?  Blaming it on being born under the astrological sign of Libra is really just an excuse; although being flaky about...

  • When I was in elementary school and first learning my multiplication tables, my little brain could not wrap itself around it.  The subject of math was not my strong suit and really, still isn’t!  Way back then, I remember sitting on the couch with my...

  • As an overthinker and chronic worrier, I have learned that one of the best ways to avoid setting the wheels in motion to that negative thought process is to avoid talking about my problems over and over. We all have problems and issues; the thorn...

  • What does it take to be free to love again? We’ve all been there – someone’s broken your heart, you love someone who doesn’t love you or your “crush” doesn’t even look your way.  You are left feeling jaded, bitter, saddened; leading you to put...

  • “Some people grumble that roses have thorns; I am grateful that thorns have roses.” – Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr Most women I know LOVE roses – red, white, yellow, pink, orange or even rainbow – a rose of any color is so beautiful!  Alas, they’re difficult...

  • There’s something so gracious about a person who is humble, isn’t there?  It’s admirable to do great things and not want attention drawn to yourself for doing so.  But… I say – it’s okay to toot your own horn now and again.  Everyone has not...

  • I’ve been thinking about daddies and daughters a lot lately; well, that’s to say, I’ve been thinking about my own father a lot lately.  My father died in 1990, and I’ve lived long enough now that he’s been gone from my life almost as long...

  • Happy Fourth of July!  I hope you are enjoying your day with family and friends, even better – I hope you’re at the beach lavishing in the aura of sun, sand and sea!  Speaking of sun, sand and sea…. Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re...

Words are my passion, and I consider myself a connoisseur of words.  Well, what does that mean, you ask? My love of all things “wordy” began at an early age, cultivated by supportive family members and teachers. Growing up, it was just my brother and I, and since he didn’t want to play with a girl most of the time, I spent a lot of time alone.  I guess you could say I’ve always leaned toward introversion, so I’d write short stories to pass the time alone, and channel my imaginative thoughts.
Fast forward to a few years ago, when I joined Classy Living Society, a women’s national community service organization.  I was offered an opportunity to help out on their digital magazine, The Classy Chronicles, by putting together a few articles and presenting a combined edited version for its host website. Piece of cake!  A little bit turned into a lot and next thing I knew, I became the Editor in Chief of the organization! And might I add a proud one too! Why, I was even presented with the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2016, signed by President Barack Obama in connection with my work.  Pretty good stuff…
CLS Founder LaShanda Pitts and I developed an online magazine for the organization – Chronicles Too! which features amazing nonprofit organizations, awesome businesses and business owners, people doing great things in the community and more. Furthermore, CLS presents the #KeepGoing Award — an annual award given to individuals selected from the Chronicles Too features. The award is designed to celebrate those who inspire others and demonstrate tireless effort in giving back to the community, and to encourage them to #keepgoing.
Like many of you, as I keep on living, I keep on learning. I’ve cultivated stories, and in all the things I love about life, I’ve developed a veritable smorgasbord of introspective thoughts, creative ideas and funny randoms!  I am convinced that God bestowed this gift of writing upon me so that I may share my words with others. It is my mission to motivate, inspire, create laughter and possibly pull at your heartstrings too. In doing so, it is also my mission to encourage others (myself included!) to #keepgoing.
Sign on the dotted line and commit yourself to subscribing to my thoughts, please and thank you! Welcome to my journey – all spilled out in print. Welcome to New York Red! #keepgoing
