BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION:
40 Girls and Some ShoesAtlanta, Georgia
ABOUT THE BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION:40 Girls and Some Shoes is a charity outreach program servicing the homeless and impoverished citizens of the City of Atlanta and its surrounding communities. The goal and mission of the organization is to aid women, men and children who are taking that all-important first step into a new life by providing them with new and gently worn shoes.
In addition to organizing our own shoe drives, distributions, empowerment luncheons and fundraisers, we strive to make our mark by partnering with other beacons throughout the United States and abroad (shelters, ministries and government social agencies) in their longstanding efforts to end homelessness.
THE STORY:The concept of 40 Girls and Some Shoes came about after receiving news of my cousin Paula's sudden death in 2005. Word of Paula's death was shocking enough, but hearing that she had been going through a difficult time and had been living in a homeless shelter was even more shocking. Her meager belongings that were left at the shelter was given to our family -- it only consisted of two pair of shoes.
In the quest to understand the fate that had befallen my cousin, I found my purpose. I began frequenting homeless shelters and volunteering to help those who needed a helping hand. A year later, I started a shoe drive and collected over 300 pair of shoes for a homeless shelter in Atlanta. Before I knew it, 40 Girls and Some Shoes was born! Today, over 35,000 pair of shoes have been collected and distributed throughout Georgia and as far away as Haiti.

CHILDHOOD YEARS:I have always been outgoing and social, even in my youth. Family and community is very important to me!
I have no real hobbies, but I have tried everything from tennis to snowmobiling and water skiing. I even went snorkeling in Australia's Great Barrier Reef and hiking the Machu Picchu trail in Peru. I'm no dancer, but took the floor in Argentina for a night of Tango. I love Life and all the experiences it offers and at the young age of 55, I'm just getting started.
RELAXATION:What's that? No, just kidding... I relax on my sofa, a nice beach and/or my Mom's bed...Nothing special.
