BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION:
ABOUT THE BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION:The ShampooMATE is a product of TRH Innovations, LLC a minority woman, veteran-owned small business. The ShampooMATE is a specialty item created to resolve the age-old problem of discomfort during the shampoo process with small children in the home. The ShampooMATE is unique in design being it is ergonomically designed to support the neck and eliminate strain. I am the mother of three daughters who simply needed a way to resolve the challenges I faced in my own home during the shampoo process with my daughters. It's the experience and passion I had that I put into ensuring it, as I like to say, "Takes away the ShampooDay Blues". The ShampooMATE is Mom Tested and Kid Approved.
THE STORY:As I mentioned, the ShampooMATE was initially invented to resolve the challenges and issues I faced in my own home during the shampoo day process with my own daughters. I'm the mother of three daughters all with a head full of hair. Like millions of parents, caregivers, and children will attest to, shampoo time is or rather was a struggle. Thanks to the ShampooMATE #TheStruggleIsOVER. I initially only created a few of them, one for my home and the others I sent to a couple of my sorority sisters to simply try and let me know what they thought. The testimonials I received were amazing. I then went to an event here in Houston, stood up and shared what I was attempting to do with this product. In the audience was an Orthopedic Surgeon who later ran up to me afterward sharing that my idea was so innovative that she wanted to purchase one of the last demos I had. That's when I knew without a shadow of a doubt I was on to something with the ShampooMATE.
I immediately created social media pages and started posting the testimonials from my sorority sisters and posting every time I shampooed one of my daughters' hair. People started asking where they could purchase one from. I didn't even have a website at the time. I initially started with having people send me an email of what color they wanted and I'd issue them a PayPal invoice. I did that from November 2013 through January 2014. At the beginning of the year, I purchased a website and business took off. We were doing great. We were slowly growing month after month. I began taking classes to learn more about business. I also participated in a few programs to develop myself in this new arena of being an entrepreneur. I really took the time to prove the concept which again was doing very well. Then Mr. Adversity hit and my life went crazy and as a result, business suffered drastically. I had to take a step back and regroup. Now here I am back like I never left. I've relaunched and operating as if I never missed a beat.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS / ACCOLADES / AWARDS:Oh my goodness proud moments? Every moment is a proud moment for me. Every purchase made by customers is a proud moment for me. To know that I created a product that is taking the struggle away from the at-home shampoo process across the country is an amazing feeling. I smile from deep within with every testimonial and picture I'm tagged in from customers saying how their child now actually enjoys getting their hair shampooed now. The testimonial from the two mothers who have special needs children who are now able to get an effective shampoo at home because of the ShampooMATE. The mom who woke up one day to find her young daughter pretending to shampoo her baby dolls hair using the ShampooMATE. All of those are proud moments for me and the best awards and recognitions I can receive.
The ShampooMATE was featured in the Wall Street Journal, at South by Southwest, and on Shark Tank. I am a graduate of the Capital One Getting Down to Business program which is a program that only selects 15 businesses in the city to work with. The ShampooMATE won the SBA Microsoft InnovateHER challenge in Houston, TX and was a semifinalist to represent Houston in Washington, DC. The ShampooMATE has also been featured on many other publications as a "Mommy must-have item"
RELAXATION:Some of my favorite ways to relax are taking a nice long bubble bath or getting a nice deep tissue massage. I love to travel anywhere there's water to just simply layout and enjoy the breeze and the sounds of the ocean. I even enjoy taking a ride through the park on my bike. There's something out being on my bike riding not only exercising but feeling that breeze on my face and talking to God. It's those moments when I can just reflect on ways to continue to improve myself and my businesses.
RULES/PRINCIPLES:The most important principle/rule I live by is to live a life that's pleasing to God. If I continue to allow my steps to be ordered by him then there's nothing I can't accomplish. Operate with integrity and transparency by allowing others to see the real me just as I am "flaws and all". I treat others the way I want to be treated. I wake up everyday expecting today to be great.
