A Weekend of Holiday Volunteering!

It was a busy weekend for CLS Atlanta and Houston!  Saturday December 14 and Sunday December 15 presented great opportunities to volunteer during this holiday season through three worthwhile efforts – Saturday’s Angel Tree Distribution and Sunday’s event with For the Kid in All of Us in Atlanta and the Food Fair in Houston!

Christian Community Service Center Food Fair!

CLS Houston Society volunteers lent a helping hand at a Food Fair hosted by the Christian Community Service Center on Saturday.  Since 2009, CCSC has hosted Food Fair events to serve members of the community in need. Similar to a farmer’s market, CCSC receives several pallets of fresh produce/food products from the Houston Food Bank to distribute to hundreds of those in need. This activity supplements their ongoing food pantry efforts to eliminate hunger in the area.  CLS volunteers greeted and guided clients, organized and passed out the nutritious fruits and vegetables, and more.

Salvation Army Angel Tree Distribution

Most of us are familiar with the tinkle of a bell and Salvation Army red kettles at various retail locations, etc. during Christmastime – but did you know the second most popular Salvation Army holiday effort is the Angel Tree program?  Cards are placed on Christmas trees in various locations across America, outlining the needs of children at holiday time, and people wishing to donate can “adopt an angel” by purchasing the requested items. The items are bagged/boxed according to an assigned number given to each family.

Classy Living Society volunteered at the annual Angel Tree Distribution Set-up for the Salvation Army on Saturday, December 14.  Volunteers unloaded bags and large items from several trucks and placed them on the floor of a large area marked with the corresponding number on the bag or item.  The hard work paid off at the end of their task, as nearly every inch of the floor was filled with bags of items for the families to pick up on their designated pick-up day.  There were literally a sea of bags and items in the room; it was an amazing amount of donations for families in need – CLS organized donations for 2000 families who are being blessed with new toys and clothing for the holidays.

For the Kid In All of Us Toy Party

CLS Members got into the holiday spirit on Sunday, December 15 while assisting For the Kid in All of Us set up for its 2019 VIP Toy Party and Silent Auction!  This is the organization’s 16th annual toy party benefiting children in need in Georgia. The Toy Party fundraiser features silent and live auctions, photos with Santa, food, raffles and music featured by live entertainment and DJ’s.  Ticket holders are asked to bring an unwrapped toy for donation. Founded in 2003, For the Kid’s principal mission is a toy drive aimed at bringing people together to collect toys for Metro Atlanta’s kids in need. This small, private event quickly grew into one of Atlanta’s largest must-see holiday happenings.  CLS volunteers had a great time helping with this festive event!
