When a child is seriously ill, injured or during a medical crisis, sometimes the treatment facility the family needs for their child may be many miles away.  In addition, depending on the nature and severity of the injury or illness, the child may need to stay at the faraway facility for days, weeks or even months.  The child’s treatment is the most important objective, but it’s also important for the child to have the presence and support of mom, dad and other family members during this time.  That’s where Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) comes in. All across the United States, they provide a “place for families to call home so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little to no cost.”  They provide many resources, including home-cooked meals, private rooms, recreation and a shoulder to lean on, to name a few.

The facility relies on the support of volunteers to provide a home away from home environment for the residents.  By baking cookies, greeting families at check-in, hosting meals and activities, and so much more, volunteers ensure that each Ronald McDonald House facility feels as much like home as possible.

Classy Living Society has forged a bond with Ronald McDonald House over the last couple of years – volunteering in various locations and adopting a room at the facility in Tampa, Florida.  On November 30, 2019, the CLS Houston Society served breakfast at Ronald McDonald House Houston. Using the facility’s onsite kitchen, the volunteers prepared delicious breakfast foods to serve to the residents.  A warm meal prepared and served with a smile made the residents’ day, and the volunteers had a great time showing off their cooking expertise!
